Religious Education

Religious Education reflects the aims and objectives of the agreed Local Authority Syllabus that acknowledges the fact that religious practices in Great Britain are in the main Christian, whilst taking into account the teaching and practices of other principal religions.

Religious Education at Oak Lodge sets out to teach students about the world around them, giving them a sense of their own identity and of relationships with other individuals and groups.

Learning is planned to ensure there is a balanced coverage of Christianity with other world faiths and beliefs. As all teaching is adapted to the special needs of students, what is taught at first may contain little that is religiously formal or explicit, but will lay foundations for a more mature study of religion.

The 1944 Education Act established the right of parents to withdraw their children from RE. The Headteacher will discuss practical implications with any parent wishing to exercise the right of withdrawal.
